Elderly woman dies, child rescued following fire at Punggol Central flat
An elderly woman died and a young child was taken to hospital following a fire at Punggol Central on Monday (15 October) afternoon.
The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) said in a Facebook post that its officers responded to a fire at at fourth-floor unit at Block 163B Punggol Central at about 12.35pm.
A 63-year-old woman was pronounced dead at the scene while a three-year-old child was taken to the KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital.
Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus sets, conducted a forced entry into the smoke-filled unit. The fire involved kitchen contents and was extinguished with one water jet, said the SCDF.
The police and SCDF are currently investigating the cause of the fire.
