She’s only 13, but already Elle Fanning is considered something of a style icon. Yes, even the high-priestess of Fashion, Alexa Chung, once said of her: “Is it weird that I'm obsessed with a thirteen-year-old?" because Elle dresses in Rodarte (the Mulleavy sisters are her bezzie mates) and Marc Jacobs (she’s already starred in a Marc by Marc campaign). So it’s only natural that her big sister, fellow actress Dakota Fanning (a veritable old woman at 17) should be looking to her little sister for style advice…
"She's the go-to fashion person in the family," Dakota has revealed to Teen Vogue magazine. "Elle knows every single model, every single collection, every single piece from every single collection. It's funny, 'cause when you're an older sister, you try to be the leader and example, and I've recently had to accept that we're equals. The day has come when I actually need her help. I've had to admit that to myself and break down and be like, 'Little sister, does this look good?'"
Still, it doesn’t mean that Elle doesn’t take a little inspiration – or, er, actual clothes – from her big sister. "She steals my clothes!" Dakota reveals. "As far as I'm concerned, there's a no-closet-sharing policy, but… I'll go in my room, and there will be clothes on the floor, clothes missing, clothes that are now in her closet. Last summer I was in London working on a film, and I was looking online and these pictures came up on my homepage. She was in my hat, my dress, my shoes. I called her up and was like, 'I caught you! They photographed you wearing all my stuff. Put it back!”
Stealing your sister’s clothes: normal; stealing your 13-year-old’s Rodarte dresses: not normal. When did teenagers stop wearing Tammy, eh?
