While your family may have to stay at home this month, that doesn't mean your kids need to go without playdates: They can now experience a "virtual playdate" with Elmo and his friends.

Sesame Workshop, the nonprofit that runs Sesame Street, announced Sesame Street: Elmo’s Playdate, a new special to help kids and families feel more connected durning the coronavirus pandemic. Taking the form of a video conference call, the half-hour special will follow Elmo, Grover, Cookie Monster, and Abby Cadabby as they find new ways to play together. Celebrity guests Anne Hathaway, Lin-Manuel Miranda, and Tracee Ellis Ross will join Elmo and his friends as they sing songs, play games, and take dance breaks. The special will also celebrate EMTs, doctors, and everyday heroes helping families through the pandemic.

"We hope Sesame Street: Elmo’s Playdate will entertain and inspire families at a moment when so many are feeling isolated and overwhelmed by current events," Sesame Workshop CEO Steve Youngwood said in a statement. "With help from our distribution partners around the world, this special will encourage parents and kids to gather and relax as a family, in a way that only the Sesame Street Muppets can."

The special will air on WarnerMedia networks (HBO, HBO Latino, TBS, TNT, Cartoon Network, Boomerang, and truTV) and PBS KIDS 24/7 channel and streaming platforms on Tuesday, April 14 at 7:00 p.m. It will air globally on beginning on April 15.
