Elon Musk 'wants to buy Liverpool' despite Man United takeover preference
Elon Musk's father has claimed that his son would be interested in purchasing Liverpool despite previously declaring his loyalties to Manchester United.
In an interview on Times Radio, Errol Musk was asked whether reports suggesting the billionaire, who is worth an approximate £279bn, was interested in buying Liverpool were accurate, he replied: "I can’t comment on that, they’ll raise the price.
"Oh yes, [he has expressed a desire], but that doesn’t mean he’s buying it. He would like to yes, obviously.

"Anybody would want to – so would I! His grandmother was born in Liverpool, and we have relatives in Liverpool, and we were fortunate to know quite a lot of the Beatles because they grew up with some of my family.
"So, we are attached to Liverpool you know…" If Musk was able to complete a deal for the Anfield club, it would go against his previous declaration of support for United.
On Twitter in 2022, Musk was asked for his political preferences and admitted he supported the left of the Republican Party and the right of the Democrat Party. He then added: "Also, I’m buying Manchester United you are welcome."
When asked if he was serious, Musk replied: "No, this is a long-running joke on Twitter. I’m not buying any sports teams.
"Although, if it were any team, it would be Man United. They were my favourite team as a kid."
Should Musk purchase Liverpool, he would join a long list of American business people who have completed takeovers of Premier League clubs. Celebrities have also started to dip their toes into club ownership, including the high profile takeover of Wrexham by Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney.
