Elton John has launched a $1 million Coronavirus Emergency Fund for HIV sufferers.

The iconic singer took to Twitter on Saturday (April 4) to make the announcement, stating that the Elton John AIDS Foundation is committed to protecting those with HIV during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Noting that distribution of HIV medicine, testing and treatment is not as simple as it was a few weeks ago, Elton explained that the new emergency fund will help frontline staff to prepare for and respond to the pandemic's effects on HIV care.

“For almost 30 years my foundation has prioritized the most vulnerable people to HIV, to end the AIDS epidemic and we’re committed to this during the COVID-19 crisis too,” he said in a video.

“Our new COVID-19 emergency fund will help frontline partners to prepare for and respond to the pandemic and its effects on HIV prevention and care for the most marginalised communities."

He added: "We’re with you, we’re thinking of you, we will not leave anyone behind."

Earlier this week, the Rocket Man singer hosted a coronavirus relief concert called Fox Presents the iHeart Living Room Concert for America.

The event, which featured the likes of Billie Eilish, Mariah Carey and Alicia Keys, Green Day, Camila Cabello and more singing from their homes, raised more than $10 million for the battle against coronavirus.
