Emma Thompson and Stanley Tucci play couple in Ian McEwan's 'The Children Act'

Emma Thompson and Stanley Tucci will star opposite each other in a film adaptation of an Ian McEwan's novel.

In "The Children Act," Thompson plays Fiona Maye, an eminent family judge in London who is challenged by her latest case when a 17-year-old boy refuses medical treatment that could save his life.

Her encounter with the boy has a profound impact on her personal life which is in crisis. Her demanding career has taken a toll on her 30-year marriage to American professor Jack (Tucci) and the relationship has reached breaking point.

Directing is Richard Eyre and producing is Duncan Kenworthy, whose credits include "Notting Hill" and "Love Actually."
