Emmerdale airs death in Rhona storyline

Emmerdale spoilers follow.

Emmerdale has aired a sad death for Gus's wife Lucy.

Rhona Goskirk's world has been turned upside down in recent weeks, after discovering Gus had used her frozen embryos for pregnant wife Lucy without asking her permission.

This week's episodes have seen Rhona threaten to call police on Gus unless he'd agreed to meet her face-to-face so they could discuss the situation.

In Thursday's (November 16) episode, Rhona had no choice but to confront her former husband at home when he didn't show up for their planned meeting.

As she was understandably airing her grievances, a heavily pregnant Lucy emerged to thank Rhona for all she'd done for them. Before Rhona could even explain what Gus had done, Lucy started suffering serious pain.

Rhona promised to drive Gus and Lucy to the hospital, though she got an alarming omen when she spotted blood on the ground where Lucy had been standing.

Marlon joined Rhona at the hospital where they waited with Gus for news, and after a while, they were told Lucy had indeed given birth to a baby girl.

However, the nurse explained that Lucy had been rushed directly from labour into surgery. A short time later, Gus delivered some awful news to Marlon and Rhona.

"It's Lucy. She's gone," a tearful Gus explained, before cruelely blaming Rhona for Lucy's tragic fate.

Back at Smithy Cottage, Rhona broke down in front of Marlon and mum Mary as she admitted to feeling like she was responsible for Lucy's death.

"I made her cry," Rhona recalled. "I was there. I saw her doubled over in pain. It literally came from nowhere. I didn't even think about her being pregnant, the stress, the pressure, how vulnerable she would have felt because it was all about me.

"My anger. My betrayal. My loss. But Lucy died!"

Mary and Marlon tried to comfort Rhona as the episode came to a close…

Emmerdale airs on weeknights at 7.30pm on ITV1, and streams on ITVX.
