SEREMBAN: Gerakan Negri Sembilan has selected Josephine Lee Mei Li as the Barisan Nasional (BN) candidate to contest the Bukit Kepayang state seat, or N21, in the 14th general election.
Gerakan Negri Sembilan state chairman Datuk David Choong Vee Hing said Lee, 40, was chosen due to her background as an entrepreneur who is able to woo young voters in the constituency, which is under Parliament Rasah.
"It is the party's strategy to announce the candidates early, so that we will have time to prepare at all levels, from grassroots to the top management, and this approach is endorsed by BN.
"Even though Bukit Kepayang is a DAP stronghold, we will nevertheless work hard, as this strategy could reduce the DAP majority and subsequently, we will wrestle the seat," he told reporters here this morning.
Lee said she is thankful for the opportunity to contest and will get cracking right away, as there are many things to be done, such as going down to the ground to meet the constituents.
"I would like to serve the people, and am confident that I have the chance to win because the trend right now is for amateur politicians to unexpectedly win elections," said Lee, who holds a master’s in business administration and a bachelor’s degree in commerce.
In the 13th general election, the DAP won the seat when its candidate, Cha Ka Chin, beat Gerakan candidate, Wong Oi Foon, with a majority of 9,457 votes.
