Erin Krakow Says "There Will Be Romance" for Elizabeth in When Calls the Heart Season 8

From Good Housekeeping

  • The season 7 finale left many When Calls the Heart fans wondering if Elizabeth chose Nathan or Lucas.

  • Some voiced their concerns about the love triangle storyline, saying that they just want "Elizabeth to make a decision already."

  • Erin Krakow, who plays Elizabeth on the show, told Hearties that she can't give any details about what's ahead, but promises that "there will be romance" in season 8.

The final scene in the When Calls the Heart season 7 finale left Hearties speechless. After it appears that Elizabeth has her sights set on Lucas, she embraces Nathan with "a hug around the world." Although some fans assumed this moment meant Elizabeth made her decision (did she?!), many took to social media to express their frustration with Elizabeth's never-ending love triangle.

Now that we're a few months out from the season 8 premiere, WCTH fans are pressing for answers. Erin Krakow, who plays Elizabeth on the show, wasn't quick to give the kinds of answers they were looking for, but she still teased that "there will be romance" in the next season. With who? We're not quite sure.

Some fans continued to ask her to "spill the tea," but the Hallmark star kept her lips sealed — until one fan criticized her character for moving on from her first love, Jack. In response, Krakow empathized with the fan, telling them that the two of them might just "see love differently." "You must still be hurting from Dan’s [Daniel Lissing] exit. I’m sorry. I’m sure that hurts. I just think we see love differently. I don’t believe Elizabeth should have to 'be true' to Jack until she dies. New love doesn’t cheapen what J & E [Jack and Elizabeth] had," she continued.

This isn't the first time that Krakow or the show's creator Brian Bird have responded to criticism about Elizabeth's current storyline. When some fans called out Elizabeth's "shameful" behavior in season 7, Krakow replied: "I appreciate your concern for Elizabeth and our younger viewers, but nothing untoward occurred. And I think calling us shameful is perhaps a bit unkind." The show's creator echoed her statement, pointing out that the storyline clearly doesn't bother a "majority of the 3 million Hearties watching."

While it's unclear exactly when When Calls the Heart will return for season 8, we already know that it'll start with "a boom" — at least that's what the show's creator says. Maybe that means we'll get answers about Elizabeth's love life during the first episode? Let's hope ... for Hearties' sake.
