Norway manager Stale Solbakken has revealed the latest on Erling Haaland’s injury.

The Manchester City forward was forced to pull out of the Norwegian squad due to take on Spain and Georgia later this month with a groin problem.

Haaland made it eight goals in just two games with a hat-trick against Burnley in the FA Cup after putting five past RB Leipzig in the Champions League only days before.

City are locked in a battle with Arsenal for the Premier League title and have little more margin for error.

Pep Guardiola trails former protégé Mikel Arteta by five points and have to hope the Gunners slip-up between now and the end of the season.

Speaking at a pre-match press conference, Solbakken said: “He was affected and deeply frustrated. He has done everything he can [to get fit].”

Haaland is crucial to City’s hopes of keeping the pace after a stunning first season in the Premier League. The 22-year-old is on course to break all manner of records having bagged 42 goals in 37 games for City, including 28 in 26 League outings.

The champions host Liverpool after the international break before meeting Bayern Munich in the first of their two-leg Champions League quarter-final ten days later.

Arsenal travel to the Etihad Stadium on April 26 in what looks like a dramatic title-decider.
