Erling Haaland transfer latest: Why Borussia Dortmund striker should choose Manchester United over Real Madrid

Erling Haaland may have only joined Borussia Dortmund in January but his future beyond the summer is far from certain.

A €75million release clause is considered very achievable for one of Europe's hottest talents and Haaland's 12 goals in his first 11 games will have done nothing to deter potential suitors.

Manchester United failed in their bid to sign Haaland before Dortmund made their move, while Real Madrid are understood to be interested.

Dortmund are reportedly confident Haaland will reject a summer move away, preferring to stay for another year before making another step up.

So, what should Haaland do this summer? We loaded up Football Manager 2020 to find out...

Borussia Dortmund

Erling Haaland begins the season at Borussia Dortmund, thanks to Football Manager's winter update, and is an absolute star.

Firmly Lucien Favre's first-choice striker, supported by Jadon Sancho, Mario Gotze and Marco Reus, and quickly rises the ranks as one of the manager's key players.

An injury-free season for the 19-year-old saw him play 46 games for Dortmund and provide 27 goals and 10 assists. His average rating of 7.51 was the highest in Favre's team, ahead of Jadon Sancho's 7.37.

Haaland adds a further six goals in seven goals for Norway.

On the trophy front, Dortmund finished the Bundesliga season empty-handed - finishing some 13 points behind Bayern Munich.

Liverpool thrashed them 5-0 in the Champions League quarter-finals and they were knocked out on penalties by Hertha Berlin in the third round of the DFB-Pokal.

Manchester United

Despite only just returning 18 years old, Haaland was jetted straight into Ole Gunnar Solskajer's starting line-up as Marcus Rashford gets pushed onto the left wing and Anthony Martial on the right.

Haaland doesn't hit the heights of his Bundesliga scoring feats, though still makes 49 appearances and provides 21 goals and eight assists.

However, like at Dortmund, he has the highest average rating in the squad with 7.35, ahead of Bruno Fernandes's 7.25. The Portuguese, playing in the no.10 role, scored 19 goals and added 10 assists.

Haaland finishes the season with silverware as Solskjaer saves his job by beating Lazio in the Europa League final and subsequently qualifying for the Champions League after finishing seventh in the Premier League.

It was almost a double for United but Tottenham won the League Cup final on penalties, Odion Ighalo missing the vital penalty after a 3-3 draw. Crystal Palace knocked United out of the FA Cup after a third-round replay.

Real Madrid

Haaland has a far tougher time working his way into Real Madrid's starting line-up, making just 17 appearances during the season of which only five were starts.

The young striker still scored six times and provided three assists and his season is ended prematurely in early May with a fractured lower leg.

Whereas Haaland's valued soared at Dortmund and United - hitting around ÂŁ75million at both - it hits ÂŁ57m at the Berbabeu. Interestingly, though, his finishing of 19 is better in Madrid than at the other two, where is rises to 18.

Regarding silverware, it is equally frustrating for Haaland & Co. as they finish third in LaLiga behind champions Barcelona and runners-up Atletico Madrid.

Manchester City overturn a first-leg deficit in the Champions League to reach the semi-finals at Real's expense, while Sevilla knock them out of the Copa del Rey at the last four.
