Sports favourites like the Spanish La Liga and Formula One will be back on StarHub next month.

That's because under new cross-carriage rules, both Singtel and Starhub have agreed non-exclusive deals to carry content from ESPN STAR Sports' (ESS) portfolio of six sports channels and multimedia offerings.

Among other sports events to be back on Starhub will be Grand Slam tennis (Wimbledon, Australian Open), and the Golf Majors (The Masters, US Open and The Open Championship).

But there's a catch -- subscribers of StarHub's Sports Group package will have to pay $19.26 a month from January, up from the current $12.84 monthly subscription.

ESS has been on  mio TV since 2009 when SingTel secured exclusive rights on a three-year deal.

However, it's still not clear if Starhub will have broadcast rights of Barclays Premier League, Champions League and Europa Cup matches -- currently available only on mio TV.

In October, SingTel announced it had secured the broadcast rights to all 380 Barclays Premier League (BPL) matches for the next three seasons commencing August 2013 on a  non-exclusive basis.
