Ev Ting makes quick work of Nobutatsu Suzuki with heavy strikes

Ev Ting still has ONE Lightweight World Champion Eduard “Landslide” Folayang on his mind.

Nearly four months removed from his title loss, the 28-year-old known as “E.T.” is eager for a title rematch, and he made that clear on Friday, 18 August at ONE: QUEST FOR GREATNESS.

In front of a roaring Stadium Negara in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, the local favourite decisively beat former ONE Welterweight World Champion Nobutatsu Suzuki by TKO in the first round.

As soon as the opening bell rang, both competitors proved to be hungry for a win. Suzuki was the first man to pressure his opponent, but Ting responded with a single leg attempt that sent his Japanese counterpart reeling backwards to the fence.

Suzuki broke free a minute into the contest, and Ting flashed a cartwheel kick a hair’s breadth away from his head. The unconcerned Suzuki came forward, absorbing lefts and rights to the head just to land a crushing knee to the Malaysian’ midsection.

Suzuki could not walk through Ting’s offence for long, however, as “E.T.” knocked the Japanese veteran backwards. That is when “E.T.” saw his opportunity, and rushed in to slam Suzuki to the mat.

At first, it looked like Suzuki might survive on the ground and look to scramble to his feet, but the relentless Ting postured up and rained down a merciless ground and pound assault. Referee Olivier Coste saw Suzuki could not form an intelligent defence, and waved off the match at 3:29 of the first round.

Following the match, Ting got on the cage microphone and promised he would be back for another title shot, and that this time, he would make good on his promise of bringing a championship belt back to Malaysia.

Ting advances his professional record to 14-4. As for Suzuki, the returning veteran, he falls to 11-3-2.
