Everton winger Demarai Gray has launched an attack on the Everton hierarchy, with several Saudi clubs still trying to sign him.
The Jamaica international hasn’t trained with the Toffees squad for the last couple of weeks as Sean Dyche attempted to offload him to generate funds for his own signings.
Gray is clearly frustrated by the way he has been treated by the manager.
He has been an important player for Everton over the last few seasons, too, scoring 12 goals in 75 appearances since joining the club in 2021 for a bargain fee of £1.7m.
The additions of Arnaut Danjuma and Jack Harrison have seen Gray fall down the pecking order at Goodison Park, however, which is why the Toffees are willing to sell him.
Everton also gave Gray’s number 11 shirt to Harrison when he arrived from Leeds on a season-long loan, which will have infuriated the attacker.
According to reports from Saudi Arabia (as cited by the Liverpool Echo), Gray has passed a medical in London ahead of a £4.7m move to Al Ettifaq. It’s worth noting that conflicting reports suggest the fee is closer to £10m, though.
It is claimed that the move will be announced in the next 48 hours. If that’s true, it seems Gray has delivered a parting shot aimed at Dyche on his way out.
Gray slams Dyche in defiant social media post
Gray posted the following on his Instagram page, as rumours continue to circulate about him leaving Everton to join a Saudi Club.
“Everton fans have always been great with me, but it’s so difficult to play for someone who doesn’t respect you as a person.” he said.
Gray was utilised often by Frank Lampard but has seen his minutes diminish since Dyche took charge at Everton in January.
The 27-year-old made 13 Premier League appearances under the former Burnley boss last season but is yet to feature for the Toffees in a competitive match this season.
As mentioned, the arrivals of Harrison and Danjuma have only seen him fall further down the pecking order, while Dwight McNeil has become a stalwart in Dyche’s starting XI when injury-free.
With that in mind, you can’t really blame Gray for wanting to join Al Ettifaq. Sources close to Everton suggest that talks are ongoing between the two clubs, so it’s likely that he will finalise his exit in the next few days.
