Every poor to be covered by 4Ps by 2016

AN OFFICIAL of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) recently bared their target households for government’s Pantawid Pamilyan Pilipino Program (4Ps) or conditional cash transfer program.

DSWD Regional Director Leonardo Reynoso claimed the agency is embarking on an ambitious goal of covering 79,816 identified poor households in their National Household Targeting System by the end of President Benigno Aquino III’s term.

Reynoso said the agency is optimistic of the gains of the Pantawid Pamilya, one of the international funding organization of the program, have given the project a nod as it has been proven to alleviate poverty in other foreign countries.

By 2012, Reynoso claimed the agency will be targeting 60 percent or 48,460 of the 79,816 poor households in the region as many other local governments have requested inclusion of several poor households in their communities.

Some 5.2 million identified poor families remain very high targets of the Aquino administration.

Reynoso, however, said of this total number of poor households, only 10 percent will be given jobs and means for livelihood.

He said one of the setbacks the agency is facing at present is the lack and mismatch of skills of head of families in poor households to jobs and livelihood the agency is providing through the Self Employment Assistance-Kaunlaran program.

That is why the agency, he said, has been involved in skills training of heads of families for them to learn to find means to feed and send their children to school.

This way, Reynoso said the aid given to poor families will not only be for the moment but a sustainable means of improving the lives of poor families in the country.
