Everyone's congratulating the Twitter employee who deleted Donald Trump's account

A Twitter employee who deleted Donald Trump‘s account on their last day has come in for high praise from the internet.

The US President’s account was deactivated, disappearing for 11 minutes and leaving only the notice: “@realDonaldTrump does not exist”.

Twitter initially said the account was deactivated “due to human error by a Twitter employee” but later said an investigation had revealed it was done by a customer support employee who did it on their last day.

The employee’s bold move sparked a flurry of praise from fellow Twitterati, with many suggesting the disgruntled employee should should be in line for a hefty bonus.

Others compared the customer support worker to a hero.

In response to Twitter’s statement about its investigation, one user said: “I am assuming you’re investigating who should get a million dollar bonus?”

Others had similar ideas for what should happen to the departing employee.

Other Twitter users suggested the deactivation should be a permanent state of play for Mr Trump’s account.

Mr Trump has regularly used his Twitter account to post controversial comments about his political rivals in the US and abroad, as well as on contentious issues.

The US President has not yet tweeted about the deactivation of his account and a spokesperson for the White House did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
