Everything You Need to Know About ‘Songland’ Season 2

The best reality competition show you might have missed? Songland. (Don't tell us you've never heard of it.) But lucky for us, it’s coming back for another season. The NBC show, which features songwriters performing their unproduced tracks in hopes of convincing a mega-famous guest judge to record it themselves—is set to air in April and the network is working hard to keep the specifics under wraps. To get you up to speed, here’s everything you need to know about Songland season 2.

Sorry, what’s Songland?

Songland is a reality competition show that features four songwriters who are hoping to get a major artist to record their song. There are three resident judges who are huge music producers: Ryan Tedder, Ester Dean and Shane McAnally. After the four contestants perform their songs, one of them is cut and each of the three who remain are paired with one of the producers to refine and perfect their song for the guest judge—like season 1’s John Legend, Macklemore, Jonas Brothers or Meghan Trainor. The goal is to make the song work best for the guest judge, who chooses his or her favorite to record themselves. The songwriter essentially makes it in the industry that very day. Lives are changed, people!

How do you make it on the show?

If you think you’re sitting on a hit song, now’s your chance. Head to songlandcasting.com to upload it and wait in agony for a response from the show.

Who will guest judge season 2?

This part is strictly speculation, but the resident judges have worked with stars like Beyoncé, Taylor Swift, Katy Perry and Demi Lovato, so we’ll be on the edge of our seats until the season premiere.

I’m sold, when does it air?

Songland season 2 will air on NBC on Monday, April 13 at 10 p.m. EST. In the meantime, you can catch all of season 1 on NBC.com and Hulu.
