Ex-Man Utd star claims Ten Hag should’ve ‘stuck’ with ‘better ‘ De Gea over summer signing
Former Manchester United defender Paul Parker thinks Erik ten Hag should’ve “stuck” with “better goalkeeper” David de Gea instead of bringing in Andre Onana.
The Red Devils originally offered De Gea new terms with a reduction on his £375k-a-week wages before backing out of the agreement to put a deal on the table for less money again.
That saw De Gea consider his options before Man Utd and the Spanish goalkeeper eventually announced that he was leaving on a free transfer.

He hasn’t filled evert Man Utd fan with confidence in his first four Premier League appearances for the club and Parker reckons the Red Devils should’ve stayed loyal to De Gea.
Former Man Utd full-back Parker told bettors: “I can’t come out and say that I dislike Andre Onana because I don’t. If we could go back in time, I would still have stuck with David De Gea. I still think he is a better goalkeeper.

“But that doesn’t make Onana a terrible goalkeeper. He is a good goalkeeper and he has been a part of improving the build up play and I think he can be a good asset on the counter attacks as well when Man United need to send Rashford or Hojlund free with a deep pass.”
On Onana, Parker added: “But I could wish that he made more extraordinary saves. Sometimes I feel like he is a TV goalkeeper who makes easy saves look hard to make.
“It’s only four games and he will improve but people shouldn’t be picking him as the scapegoat or anything already.
“The tough part for him is that every time he makes a mistake, everyone will compare him to David De Gea who was one of the greatest goalkeepers of all time at Man United. That’s not a nice pressure to have on your shoulders.”
Man Utd captain Bruno Fernandes has revealed why he thinks Ten Hag brought Onana to the club with the Portugal international identifying his “qualities”.
“Obviously, if someone has picked Andre to come in and be the goalkeeper of Manchester United then he has to be a big personality,” Fernandes said to club media.
“In the past, this club didn’t have many goalkeepers because David was here 12 years, before that Edwin [van der Sar].
“If he’s now here and playing that position, it’s because he brings something to the team. He has qualities coming out from the back but he’s also good at stopping shots so that’s what we can expect from him.”
