Bill and Ted’s Excellent Adventure stars Keanu Reeves and Alex Winter surprised a group of high school students during their virtual graduation ceremony.

The pair made an appearance during the celebration at San Dimas High School, where the 1989 film was set, with Reeves sporting a T-shirt emblazoned with their characters’ catchphrase, “Be excellent to each other.”

Introducing themselves as Bill and Ted’s band “Wyld Stallyns”, Winter said: “We know that it’s a tough time right now and that you’re having to do this virtual graduation. We want to wish you the best of luck moving forward.”

Reeves added: “Congratulations to the graduating class of 2020. Well done.”

“San Dimas High School football does rule,” Winters continued, with Reeves shouting: “Rules!” in response.

“But most importantly, we wanted to tell you to be excellent to each other,” Winters continued, Reeves adding: “And party on.”

Reeves and Winter starred together in the movie’s 1991 sequel, Bill & Ted’s Bogus Journey, with production on a third instalment, titled Bill & Ted Face The Music, starting in 2019.

In May, writer Ed Solomon disputed accusations from a Twitter troll that the film, which is due for release on 21 August, would be a “woke piece of trash” because it featured two female characters, Bill and Ted’s daughters.

“I know you feel that. There’s no agenda – and we made them girls WAY before it was socially a thing,” Solomon responded.
