Exclusive: Home and Away star Madeleine Jevic on future of Dean's secret son story

From Digital Spy

Home and Away spoilers follow for UK viewers.

Home and Away star Madeleine Jevic has spoken to Digital Spy about the future of Amber Simmons and Dean Thompson's parenting storyline, revealing that the two characters will grow closer.

Recent episodes on Channel 5 have seen Amber drop the bombshell on Dean (Patrick O'Connor) that she has a son and he's the father, changing his life forever.

Dean now wants to play a role in the upbringing of his son Jai (River Jarvis).

Even though Dean's girlfriend Ziggy Astoni (Sophie Dillman) is supportive over this, the situation will start to cause tensions between them in upcoming episodes for UK viewers.

Speaking to Digital Spy about the big story twist, Madeleine explained: "I feel very lucky. I love playing a River Girl and enjoy the depths and complexities this storyline brings.

"Dean is so loved as a character and learning he is a father adds such a special element to his character. I feel fortunate I get to play a part in that.

"Amber and Dean share a child together and that's a bond like no other. Dean was Amber's childhood love and of course she would love to rekindle a connection between them.

"But she's respectful of his relationship with Ziggy. Dean has a lot on his plate, that's for sure."

On where the story is heading in the longer-term, Madeleine continued: "Amber never intended to tell Dean he was the father to Jai coming into Summer Bay.

"Raising Jai on her own was no easy task, so introducing Dean into Jai's life is scary, but something Amber wants for her son to have a part of his life.

"Amber and Dean try to manage their new family dynamic and it definitely brings them closer together. They share a child together and that's a bond like no other. The complex nature of co-parenting tests a lot of relationships."

Amber joined Summer Bay a few weeks ago after she was assigned as John Palmer's carer.

Viewers quickly discovered that she already shared a connection with Dean, Colby Thorne and Willow Harris from their time growing up in the Mangrove River area.

Discussing Amber's eventful debut, Madeleine commented: "It's been great. Sarah, Tim and Patrick, who play Willow, Colby and Dean, are all so generous and kind. It has felt easy to establish a bond with them as Amber because they are all so open and giving.

"I've enjoyed it. It's been fun to work on what our past relationships were and what has now changed about them in the present."

Home and Away airs weekdays at 1.15pm and 6pm on Channel 5 (UK) and Mondays to Thursdays at 7pm on Channel 7 (Australia).
