From Town & Country

As the weather starts getting colder (and the coronavirus pandemic continues on with no confirmed end in sight), people are seeking out comfort wherever they can find it. And when it comes to television, few things are more comforting than a classic British period drama about a vet in the English countryside.

Perfectly timed to come out post-holiday, Masterpiece PBS's revival of All Creatures Great and Small promises to be the television equivalent of a hot cup of cocoa: warm, up-lifting, and above all, easy to consume. An exclusive sneak peek of the show confirms as much, offering up a first look at the stunning scenery coupled with positive reviews of the series from the UK, where it has already aired. The clip also introduces James Herriott as Mr. Farnon's new assistant, and previews one of the late Dame Diana Rigg's final performances in the role of Mrs. Pumphrey. (The acting legend passed away in September at the age of 82 following a cancer diagnosis.)

Just like the original television program, which aired in the late 1970s, All Creatures Great and Small is based on the beloved books of Alf Wight, and follows Herriott, a veterinary surgeon in the 1930s.

"The books of James Herriot have enchanted millions of readers worldwide for almost half a century," the author's children Jim Wight and Rosie Page said in a statement.

"We are delighted that our father’s work will be brought to life once again for a new generation of viewers Great and Small."

Watch the sneak peek below; All Creatures Great and Small premieres on Masterpiece PBS January 10 at 9/8 p.m. central.
