Express bus overturns on NSE, injuring three

BANGI: Three people were injured when an express bus with 19 on board overturned at KM298 of the North South Expressway (NSE) early today.

The injured were identified as bus driver Amir Hamzah Zakaria, 60; bus passenger Ahmad Nur Mohd Mohdi, 59; and passing motorcyclist Buchari Mohd Said, 59.

The bus, which was carrying 17 passengers, a driver and an assistant driver, was heading south when Amir lost control of the vehicle, which overturned at about 2am.

Selangor Fire and Rescue Department operations deputy director Mohd Rizal Buang said nine firemen in one fire engine and an EMRS vehicle were deployed to the scene after a distress call was received at 2.15am.

Rizal said the injured were sent to the Serdang Hospital for treatment.

Meanwhile, in Subang Jaya, a man was killed when he lost control of his Proton Wira, which slammed into a tree at Jalan USJ3A here, after midnight today.

The victim has been identified as Chia Wei Yi, 21.

Rizal said the department received a distress call on the accident at 12.50am and immediately dispatched a fire engine and an EMRS vehicle with eight personnel to the scene.

“The 21-year-old victim was pronounced dead at the scene by a paramedic from the University Malaya Medical Centre.

“The case has been handed over to the police,” he said when contacted. © New Straits Times Press (M) Bhd
