Facebook for Android gets folders, news feed embeds

Facebook users with devices running Google's Android operating system can now get folders in the home launcher and news feeds embedded inside messages with the social network's updated app.

The access to folders had been one of the most requested items for Facebook's app, according to a report on tech site The Next Web.

Other updates in the app include:

the ability to store the app on the phone’s SD memory card sharing News Feed stories inside a private message for those with Android 2.3.7 and lower swiping on the screen to open chats and bookmarks.

The Next Web pointed out the feature allowing users to store Facebook for Android right within their SD card is "somewhat fascinating."

"It could be a way to allow users to store the app right on the device without taking up precious storage space, which is rather finite," it said.

Also, it said allowing users to share News Feed stories from within messages is an improvement that Facebook's iOS app does not have yet.

The new features are expected to address the gripes of users of Facebook Home, which was rolled out earlier this year.

"In the end, with these three features implemented, Facebook hopes that its Home launcher will be 'on par' with stock Android launchers currently out in the marketplace," The Next Web said. — TJD, GMA News
