A family was shocked to discover a camera spying on their every move inside their Airbnb holiday apartment.

US man Jeffrey Bigham was enjoying a holiday in Seattle with his family when he noticed a camera in their Airbnb rental property which had been filming his family’s private moments.

“When my family and I stayed in an AirBnB this past winter break, we discovered this camera and another about a day into our stay,” Mr Bigham wrote in a blog post on January 14.

“I was shocked, and immediately unplugged them.”

The disgusted father revealed concerns about the privacy of his child.

“I don’t think we did anything particularly weird in front of that camera, but it’s very likely that my two-year-old ran in front of this camera naked,” Mr Bigham wrote.

“I’m not sure what to take from this, but it’s scary!”

The Airbnb listing said there were cameras ‘at the entrance’, but did not mention cameras inside the house according to Mr Bigham.

The hapless guest contacted Airbnb who said the camera was visible in a photo on the listing and that was proper disclosure.

Mr Bigham also claimed the host left him a negative review and sent someone to “snoop” on them.

He also said the host claimed the family had made a mess and sent a photograph of a supposedly dirty sheet held up by someone sticking up their middle finger.

“If I ever really have to stay in an AirBnB again, I guess I’ll be taking a much closer look at all the photos, or maybe just explicitly ask my host to confirm there are no cameras inside the home,” Mr Bigham said.

Airbnb later conceded the camera’s weren’t properly disclosed and refunded the family’s stay.

Mr Bigham says he donated the money to the Electronic Frontier Foundation, a non for profit aiming to protect civil liberties in the digital age.
