Fancy buying a T. rex skeleton?
Christie's has one up for auction
said to be one of the largest ever found
He's approximately 67 million years old
and known as "STAN"
He was discovered in South Dakota in 1987
188 bones were found
creating a sizeable skeleton
(Soundbite) (English) Christie's Head Of Science And Natural History, James Hyslop, Saying:
"We expect he could have weighed 80 tons, possibly a bit more. So he's significantly heavier than the largest elephants that we know living today. He currently stands at 37-foot-long, 6-foot-wide and 13-foot-high."
STAN's estimated value is $6 million to $8 million
and his bones map an interesting life
(SOUNDBITE) (English) CHRISTIE'S HEAD OF SCIENCE AND NATURAL HISTORY, JAMES HYSLOP, SAYING:
"The really interesting pathology about him is that two of the vertebrae in his neck had fused. So in life, STAN broke his neck, he survived, it healed, and he carried on being the biggest and baddest T. rex, the apex predator of the late Cretaceous, with a broken neck."
