When our birthday rolls around, give us a Colin the caterpillar cake and a gin in a tin and we're happy. But Kanye West had different ideas to celebrate Kim Kardashian's birthday, gifting her an actual hologram of late father Robert Kardashian.

To celebrate the Keeping Up With The Kardashians star turning 40, rapper Kanye surprised his wife with a talking, moving 3D version of her dad, who died in 2003.

Taking to Twitter to share a recording of the hologram, Kim wrote, "For my birthday, Kanye got me the most thoughtful gift of a lifetime. A special surprise from heaven. A hologram of my dad. It is so lifelike! We watched it over and over, filled with emotion.

"I can’t even describe what this meant to me and my sisters, my brother, my mom and closest friends to experience together. Thank you so much Kanye for this memory that will last a lifetime."

And while many fans praised Kanye for his thoughtful and touching present, which Kim clearly loved so much, others couldn't help but notice the similarities between the hologram and David Schwimmer's portrayal of Rob in The People v. O. J. Simpson: American Crime Story.

In the 2016 dramatisation of the OJ Simpson case, Friends actor David played his lawyer Rob Kardashian, and fans have pointed out the similarities between his portrayal and the hologram.

"Ok but imagine if he said he’d got her a hologram and it was actually just David Schwimmer" one person wrote, while another added, "That’s not a hologram it’s David Schwimmer."

Someone else put, "Imagine if Kanye got David Schwimmer to play Robert Kardashian in the hologram," and another joked, "that David Schwimmer hologram is sick."

Well, so long as Kim's happy, that's the main thing. And hey, what a testament to David's acting abilities!
