Fans Roll Eyes at Mariah Carey’s ‘Hip Hop Honors’ Performance: ‘More Like Mariah Carry’ (Video)

Fans are shaking their heads after Mariah Carey delivered the centerpiece performance tonight during VH1’s “Hip Hop Honors,” a recreation of her iconic 1997 hit video “Honey.” You can watch a sample of the performance above, or the entire thing here.

Featuring several guest performers including Jermaine Dupri and Da Brat, it should have been the stand-out moment of the whole show. And it was, but not for the reasons every probably hoped — instead, it ended up being a repeat of Mariah’s now-infamous New Year’s Eve 2016 performance.

From the obvious use of a backing track as Mariah sang, to her largely stationary performance, accentuated by the energetic guests and several backup dancers, Twitter was largely side-eying the whole thing.

Luckily, not everyone was down on Mariah for her unusual performance. Many noted that she’s a singer, not a dancer, and others noted in particular that she’s going to be laughing all the way to the bank.
