Fans spot Lady Gaga's new song Sour Candy samples the same track as Katy Perry's Swish Swish

Eagle-eyed (eared?) fans have spotted similarities between Lady Gaga’s new song Sour Candy and Katy Perry’s 2017 effort Swish Swish.

Luckily, there are no copycats here - it’s just that the two pop icons have sampled the same song.

Both tracks have sampled What They Say by Maya Jane Coles, a popular dance anthem which has been been reworked by numerous stars over the years.

Within hours of Sour Candy, which is Gaga's first collaboration with K-pop band Blackpink, being released, fans soon spotted the familiar sound:

One Twitter user suggested he was buckling down to see the fight over which song fans liked better, with popcorn at the ready.

Another fan explained: “Katy Perry got the beat of Swish Swish from an old dance techno song. Lady Gaga’s concept for her new album is old dance techno.

"All those songs from that era have the same vibe and similar beat.”

And it’s not just Gaga and Katy who have sampled Coles' track - the 2016 single Girls Like by Tinie Tempah and Zara Larsson also used the hook.

Other avid pop and RnB fans have pointed out Truffle Butter by Nicki Minaj (who also features on Perry’s Swish Swish) also has hints of the sample.

Lady Gaga released Sour Candy on Thursday, dropping the audio on streaming site Tidal and her YouTube channel.

The song features on Gaga’s hotly-anticipated new album Chromatica, which will finally be release tomorrow (Friday, May 29).
