Film trailer: Gerard Butler in 'Chasing Mavericks'
The first trailer for Chasing Mavericks starring Gerald Butler, about surfing legend Jay Moriarty, was released online this weekend.
Based on the true story of the iconic surfer, it follows Moriarty's early days as he sets out to ride the waves at the Northern California surf spot known as Mavericks.
Gerard Butler (The Bounty Hunter) plays surfer Frosty Hesson and newcomer Jonny Weston plays the 15-year-old Moriarty, seeking training from a seasoned surfer for one of the biggest breaks in the world.
After discouraging the teen to try surfing the Mavericks break, Frosty gives in with only 12 weeks to train. The film will feature Butler's own surfing.
Co-directed by Michael Apted (28 Up) and Curtis Hanson (8 Mile), it also co-stars Elisabeth Shue and Scott Eastwood (Clint's son).
It hits theaters October 25-26 in the Netherlands and North America, in November in the UK and Russia, and in other markets in early 2013.
