Fire Emblem's Byleth is the new Super Smash Bros. Ultimate DLC hero
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate has confirmed the latest addition to its line-up of fighters – and yep, it's another Fire Emblem character.
As confirmed in a lengthy video presentation on Thursday (January 16), Fire Emblem: Three Houses' Byleth will be the latest character added to the Nintendo Switch game, becoming the fifth and final addition to the first Fighters Pass.
Byleth is the main playable character in Nintendo Switch's Fire Emblem: Three Houses game, where the character can be either male or female and appears as a professor at a military school.
Both the male and female versions of Byleth will be playable options in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate too.

Smash director Masahiro Sakurai unveiled the news, and also shared new details about Byleth's playstyle in the game, which includes low mobility but a good ability to fight from a distance (via The Verge).
Byleth will also be equipped with a number of weapons from Three Houses' Heroes' Relics, a series of weapons that hold immense power.
Alongside Byleth, Smash will also introduce a new Three Houses stage, based on the Garreg Mach Monastery, as well as 11 songs from the game.
While Byleth is the first character from Three Houses to join the Smash line-up, other Fire Emblem characters have already been introduced to the game, which sparked a bit of backlash from those who watched along with the announcement:

Woooow so that was really it.
No surprise reveal. No big news... just ANOTHER Fire Emblem character. All that secrecy and hype for... basically the most disappointing #SmashDirect ever.
Sakurai I love ya, we all do, but this was not the character to reveal as the 5th DLC. pic.twitter.com/oLdzyHSKOv— TRAFON (@RiseFallNick) January 16, 2020

Alongside the confirmation that Byleth is coming to the game, the presentation also shared a few more details about what else is on the new DLC, as well as offering the first tease about the *next* Fighters Pass, which will include six fighters.
Purchasing the upcoming Fighters Pass Vol 2 will also get you a bonus Mii Swordfighter outfit, based on the Ancient Soldier outfit from The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, and all six of the new characters will be released by December 31, 2021.
Byleth and the new DLC will be available from Tuesday, January 28, which is also when pre-orders for the Fighters Pass Vol. 2 go live.
