Fire put out at Nex shopping centre; no injuries reported

A fire was reported inside the Nex shopping mall on Tuesday night (28 March).

According the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) was informed of the fire at about 9.45pm that night. Two fire trucks, two Red Rhinos, two fire bikes and a supporting vehicle to the scene were sent to the scene.

SCDF personnel extinguished the blaze, which involved construction materials, using a fire extinguisher and fire hose. There were no injuries in the incident.

A media report said that mall patrons heard an announcement at about 9.45pm telling them to leave the building and to not to use the elevator.

Video footage reportedly of the incident showed the first floor of the mall filled with smoke. Mall patrons in the video did not appear to be alarmed by the incident.

Tuesday’s fire at Nex comes a day after a small fire broke at at AMK Hub in Ang Mo Kio. That fire was said to have originated in a Samsung Experience Store.
