SEGAMAT: About 50 patients and staff at Ward 3 of the Segamat Hospital panicked momentarily when a small fire occurred in a linen room storing blankets and patients’ garments.

Fortunately, the staff managed to put out the fire before six personnel from the Bandar Putra Fire and Rescue station arrived at the scene.

State Health, Environment, Education and Information Committee chairman, Datuk Ayub Rahmat said about 40 patients from the ward were moved to several other wards as a precautionary measure.

He added that quick thinking by the hospital’s security and medical staff helped contain the fire.

Ward 3 houses male patients and investigations are underway to determine the cause of the fire.
