A fire that broke out in a River Valley HDB flat on Monday (3 September) night saw three people sent to the Singapore General Hospital for smoke inhalation and 150 residents evacuated from the block.

The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) said its officers responded to the incident at a 15th-floor unit at Block 78 Indus Road at around 9.30pm and extinguished the fire using two water jets.

“The fire was well alight and had engulfed the living room, kitchen and one of the bedrooms. There was no one in the unit at the time of the fire,” added the SCDF.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

On Monday night, Member of Parliament (MP) for Jalan Besar Group Representation Constituency (GRC) Lily Neo said in a Facebook post that she was attending to residents at a Meet-The-People’s session when the fire broke out at around 9.20pm.

“I have arranged with HDB personnel to render household assistance to three families affected by the fire,” she added. “Fortunately, there were no severe injuries.”
