First China-Italy co-production begins filming of 'Coffee'

Upcoming film 'Coffee' looks at the coffee trade in three countries

The first feature film to come out of a 2014 co-production treaty signed between Italy and China will be Italian director Cristiano Bortone's "Coffee," reports Variety.

The film features three stories about coffee and how they intertwine in a globalized world.

The first story is set in Italy's capital of coffee production in Trieste, the second in a consumer-driven China and the third story heads to Belgium to look at the coffee trade amidst racial tension.

The script for the film was an international effort, with European and Chinese screenwriters collaborating to create a piece that has gotten the go-ahead from China's censors.

Filming began for the upcoming picture in August, with an expected release date in 2016.
