First look at Infiniti's Q Inspiration Concept

Infiniti Q Inspiration Concept

Infiniti has just posted its best-ever sales figures for the calendar year in the US, and things could get even better for the luxury arm of Nissan if the concept it's just released an image of goes into production looking as it does in the teaser. The Q Inspiration Concept will make its global debut at the upcoming 2018 North American International Auto Show in Detroit, and if the front of this one is as attractive as its rear is, it really will be something to look forward to.

The teaser image makes it looks as though this concept could be quite reminiscent of the Audi A7, although the Infiniti concept appears to be taking the fastback style to a new level with a cabin that reaches almost to the very edge of the car.

From this single image it initially looks as though the Q Concept could be a hatchback. Then again, as some panel gaps appear to be evident at the bottom of the D-pillar, and as there also appears to be a rear pane of glass similar to the Tesla Model 3, it probably suggests this concept may technically be classified as a sedan.

Karim Habib, Infiniti's Executive Design Director, clarifies the matter by saying, "We aim to take traditional sedan architecture to its next stage of evolution. The Q Inspiration offers an alternative form; something more flowing in appearance and muscular in stance, with an unusually long and balanced cabin. Experimenting with new proportions in an established segment with the arrival of smarter, compact powertrains, the Q Inspiration features a shorter hood and elongated body, with all the benefits to interior well-being, comfort and space that this layout entails.

Infiniti's description accompanying the image does make brief mention of "advanced powertrains," which could be among the most intriguing things about the Detroit reveal. At the very least it could have a version of Infiniti's variable-compression engine under the hood, it could be a hybrid or plug-in hybrid, but don't be surprised if Infiniti has chosen to go all the way with fully-electric powertrain for this one.
