First look at Olivia Colman's new movie
Sundance Film Festival has released a first-look image of Olivia Colman and John Lithgow in upcoming queer drama Jimpa.
Colman stars in the film as Hannah, who takes her nonbinary teenager Frances (Aud Mason-Hyde) to Amsterdam to visit their grandfather Jim (Lithgow) – lovingly known as Jimpa – who is described as "an aging, hedonistic patriarch living loud and proud in Amsterdam’s vibrant gay community".
As Hannah reconnects with her estranged father and navigates her "ambivalence" towards him, Frances "discovers the pleasures and perils of queer life in the big city".

However, when Frances expresses their desire to stay abroad with Jimpa for a year, Hannah is "forced to reconsider her beliefs about parenting and finally confront old stories about the past".
The first-look image released on the Sundance website shows Lithgow's titular character lovingly hugging his daughter from behind, suggesting a reconciliation between the pair.
Jimpa is directed by Sophie Hyde, who also co-wrote the script alongside Matthew Cormack.
The film will receive its world premiere at Sundance, which runs between January 23 and February 2 next year. A UK release date hasn't been announced yet.

Meanwhile, Colman can currently be seen on the big screen in Paddington threequel Paddington in Peru, where she plays the role of The Reverend Mother.
Ahead of the film's release, the Oscar winner told Digital Spy that her musical sequence was more difficult than she had expected.
"It turns out people who can sing and play the instrument and move, it's really hard," she explained.
"I had to do one song, but it just suddenly makes you think of going to see anyone performing on stage, like Beyoncé with dance routines and singing."
"I had a very long skirt and thankfully Jen White, the choreographer, said, 'Well, luckily the skirt hides your feet', because I was going, 'I literally can't do everything all at the same time'."
Jimpa will premiere at Sundance Film Festival in early 2025. Other global release dates are to be announced in due course.
