KOTA KINABALU: Five primary schools in Pitas and Beluran have been closed today due to floods.
Sabah Education director Datuk Maimunah Suhaibul, in a statement today, said that the schools are SK Pitas and SK Kusilad in Pitas, and SK Simpangan, SK Bawang and SK Kabuluh in Kota Marudu.
The closure affected 930 pupils and 89 teachers.
State Meteorology Department director Azemi Daud said the wet weather in Sabah was due to the existence of low pressure with an east wind speed of 20 to 30kmh.
The phenomena triggered rain in Sandakan and Kudat from morning and will possibly continue until evening. Meanwhile, thunderstorms are expected at most areas during night time.
“However, the weather is expected to improve starting Saturday but there will still be rain at several places in the interior and west coast of Sabah.”
