BESUT: Police have detained five men on suspicion of gang-raping a 16-year-old girl at a rental house in Kampung Bukit Keluang, here last Sunday.

District police chief Superintendent Mohd Zamri Mohd Rowi said all suspects were picked up at their respective houses yesterday, following a report lodged by the victim at the Kampung Raja police station on Saturday evening.

He said the suspects, from Kampung Wakaf Kubur, Kampung Gong Tiong, Kampung Pak Kiang and Jalan Tembila, Keluang, were taken to the police station for further investigation.

They all tested negative for drugs.

The case is being investigated under Section 376 of the Penal Code for rape.

"The victim (had gone) to meet her foster brother at the Bukit Keluang beach at 12 noon on that day," Zamri said today.

He said that two men in a Perodua MyVi arrived at the beach at 1.30pm. The men were asked by the foster brother to help send the girl – a pisang goreng stall assistant – to her workplace.

"(But) the victim was brought to the house in Kampung Keluang, where she was raped by a group of five men," he added.

The girl managed to escape and informed her relative about the incident.
