Flight Etiquette: 5 Things You Should Never Do On A Plane

Have you ever been frustrated on an airplane en route to your holiday destination because of a fellow Singaporean traveller? The majority of us may be considerably well-educated but that doesn't necessarily mean that we are all angels; nobody is perfect and I get that we have our own flaws. And that's precisely why we all should strive even harder to be at our best at all times, especially in small spaces like planes.

Below, we at GET.com round up the top 5 things you should never ever do on a plane.

Flight Etiquette: 5 Things You Should Never Do On A Plane

1. Bringing Way Too Much Carry-On

How many of you have had your overhead cabin compartment space taken over by other inconsiderate travellers and you had no choice but to stow your belongings in an emptier one that's many rows away from your seat? Seriously, everyone's travel experience would be so much better if we could all just be a little more considerate.

2. Insisting On A Window Seat When You Know You Need Toilet Breaks Regularly

Are you the kind of person who has to run to the toilet every hour or so? If you are weaker in the bladder or you simply like to get up and stretch considerably frequently, it would make sense for you to give the window seat or middle seat a miss. Get the aisle seat instead; it's a win-win for you and other travellers!

3. Speaking When You Have A Movie Or Music Blasting Over The Headset

It is human nature that we want to listen and be heard, but if you want to hold a conversation with your travel companion, the flight attendants, or even that cute traveller who's seated next to you, take off your headset and just speak at a normal audible level.

I don't know about you, but it is a nuisance to have a fellow traveller on board who talks at the top of his lungs just because he hasn't thought of taking the headset off for a while.

4. Kicking And Nudging The Seat In Front Of You

This really is basic courtesy and we all know how bothersome it can be to have someone constantly kick or nudge our seat when trying to catch some shut eye. I digress but yes, this golden rule also holds when you're in the cinema watching that blockbuster film.

5. Letting Your Kids Climb Over Everybody's Head

Be as accommodating as you want at home, but if you are travelling with little ones who are young but big enough to listen and be sensible, you have the responsibility to educate your kids about what's okay and what's not when on a flight with a few hundred other passengers flying with them.

What are some things the kids shouldn't be doing? Screaming and throwing tantrums are the two things that can be the most annoying for fellow passengers. If you can't take your kids in hand as well as you'd like to, check out how you can avoid stress when travelling with kids.
