Flooding hits Nidec plants in Thailand

NEW YORK (AP) — Nidec Corp., which makes small motors for everything from car windows to copiers, said Friday that floods in Thailand had inundated some of its facilities and caused production to be halted.

The Japanese company didn't provide an estimate of the damage but said it had no reports of employees being harmed.

Nidec said two plants in Ayutthaya province were inundated by flood waters and several others around the country were partially flooded.

Operations were suspended at most facilities, the company said.

Nidec shares rose 71 cents, or 3.8 percent, to $19.51 in morning trading.
