SEREMBAN: A man in his 30s is feared to have drowned when the car he was traveling in was swept away into a river at Jalan Rantau-Gadut here this afternoon after a sudden flash flood.
In the 6.30pm incident, the victim is believed to have been trapped in the car and did not manage to escape before the vehicle was carried away by raging floodwaters into the river.
A spokesperson from the Fire and Rescue Department said they received a distress call from the victim’s friend, who was in the car with the victim. The friend had managed to escape unhurt when the incident occurred.
“The victim’s friend said that the car was carried away into the fast-flowing river when the road was suddenly inundated by rising floodwaters.
“Together with the police, we have launched a search and rescue operation at the location but so far, the victim has not been found yet,” he said.
