Fluvial Parade

17 January 2013

COTABATO, Philippines --- Peace advocates are girding to stage a parade of hundreds of boats along the Rio Grande de Mindanao on January 29, in yet another show of Central Mindanao's Muslim, Lumad, and Christian folks' increasing support to the ongoing talks between the government and the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF).

The fluvial parade, organized by the Army's 6th Infantry Division, the provincial government of Maguindanao, and local officials of nearby towns, will be joined by MILF members, organizers said.

President Aquino has been reportedly invited to witness the colorful activity, which would kick off sports competitions among soldiers, policemen, and MILF guerrillas at the Camp Siongco in Datu Odin Sinsuat town in Maguindanao.

Colonel Dickson Hermoso, the newly installed spokesman of 6th Infantry Division, lauded non-government groups, local officials led by Maguindanao Governor Esmael Mangudadatu, peace advocacy outfits, and the MILF for helping organize the fluvial parade of some 500 boats. (Ali G. Macabalang)
