Tanihub, a platform that brings together farmers and consumers, was the first runner-up, while Reminate, a social media platform for exchanging dream journals, won the second runner-up award.

The three-day event was organised by business incubator and community centre KIBAR at city-based co-working space Conclave. The event was concluded on October 4.

With 65 participants from various backgrounds, Jakarta’s Startup Weekend was meant to inspire, educate and empower individuals and the local community to build their own startups.

The participants were separated into 13 small groups for a series of workshops over the weekend. They received training based on the Lean Startup Machine methodology: from product development to creating a business model, to marketing strategy.

At the end of the workshops, they pitched their new businesses to the judges and the audience.

“Building [a] tech startup ecosystem in Indonesia requires more than just financing. We need a throughout training programme to increase business skills and introduce the concept of startups to a wider audience,” said Yansen Kamto, CEO of KIBAR.

“We also want to instill in them that building a successful business begins from solving a problem,” he added.
