Foreign smartphone sales in China edge up 2.7% in July, according to research data

BEIJING (Reuters) - Sales of foreign-branded smartphones, including Apple Inc's iPhone, in China rose 2.7% in July year-on-year, according to data released on Wednesday from a government-affiliated research firm.

Calculations based on the data from the China Academy of Information and Communications Technology (CAICT) showed that during the month, sales of foreign-branded phones in China rose to 2.38 million handsets million units, up from 2.315 million a year earlier.

Overall phone sales in China increased 30.5% from a year earlier to 24.2 million handsets in July, the CAICT data showed.
