IPOH: The High Court today sentenced a former canteen worker to 15 months’ jail for molesting a 12-year-old boy three years ago.

Mohd Yunus Hassan, 53, was earlier sentenced to one day in jail by the Seri Manjung magistrate court on Aug 29, last year.

Justice Datuk Che Mohd Ruzima Ghazali in meting out the sentence ordered it to commence today after allowing the appeal by Deputy Public Prosecutor How May Ling.

How, in her submission, said the one-day jail term ordered by the magistrate court was too light and requested that the court impose the maximum jail sentence of five years.

Yunus was charged under Section 354 of the Penal Code for using force on a person with the intent to outrage his modesty at a school in Ayer Tawar, Manjung, at about 3.30pm, on Nov 18, 2014.

He was accused of committing the offence in a school toilet by hugging and kissing the victim on the lips.

He was also fined RM4,000 by the magistrate court last year.
