Former Fulham and Reading striker Pavel Pogrebnyak in hospital after contracting coronavirus

Former Premier League striker Pavel Pogrebnyak is in hospital with pneumonia having also contracted coronavirus, his family has confirmed.

Pogrebnyak had spells with Reading and Fulham during his three years in England between 2012 and 2015.

The news was confirmed by his wife Maria on Instagram.

She posted: "The husband is in the hospital, undergoing treatment! bilateral pneumonia.

"Today is the third day of the disease!

"My sense of smell has disappeared, I feel absolutely nothing! Awful feeling!"

Pogrebnyak's wife added that the family faced further blood tests on Wednesday.

Pogrebnyak's current club is Russian Premier League side FC Ural Yekaterinburg.

The Russia international scored five goals in his first three games for Fulham following his arrival from Stuttgart - including a memorable ‘perfect hat-trick’ against Wolves in March 2012.

After he was unable to agree terms with the Londoners, he signed a four-year deal with Reading where he scored 26 goals in 93 appearances before returning to Russia in 2015.
