Former Man Utd star pinpoints ‘weak spot’ in Ten Hag’s side; identifies ‘overloaded’ position
Former Manchester United defender Paul Parker insists the Premier League club’s midfield “has never been the biggest problem”.
The Red Devils have had a mixed start to the new Premier League season with two wins and two draws from their opening four matches, leaving them 11th in the early standings.
Mason Mount, Andre Onana, Rasmus Hojlund and Sofyan Amrabat were their main four summer signings with Sergio Reguilon, Altay Bayindir and Jonny Evans also joining.
Mount struggled to have an impact in his two Premier League appearances of the campaign before picking up an injury and former Man Utd full-back Parker has not been impressed.
Parker told bettors: “To be perfectly honest, I didn’t see anything about Mason Mount prior to his injury that makes me believe that he can be a key player for Man United. I have seen nothing from him, absolutely nothing.
“I have seen a lot of yards run from him but that’s it. Can I come out and say that he isn’t going to be a great player for Man United? No, I can’t, because he hasn’t played enough games yet.

“But I think everyone wants to know how Erik ten Hag will get the best out of him. Can you imagine a midfield with Casemiro, Amrabat and Mount?
“It would be interesting as well, and then you also have Bruno Fernandes and Christian Eriksen who still both need game time and both of them could easily be in the starting lineup, even together. But where does that leave the rest of the midfielders? Man United are overloaded in that area right now.
“I believe Amrabat will make a big difference and he will be a very positive asset to the squad.
“But I mean the midfield has never been the biggest problem for Man United. The attacking line has been the weak area and now they have got a massive improvement with Rasmus Hojlund but the wide areas are still a weak spot.”
Former Chelsea captain John Terry has suggested that there is an untold story surrounding Mount’s exit from Stamford Bridge in the summer.
“Mase is proper Chels through and through. There’s always two sides to a story and I know the other side to it,” Terry told Knockout Events on Friday.
“I’m not going to air that tonight but there’s another side to the story. Let’s not be too harsh on him when he comes back.”
