Former ONE World Champ Ben Askren To Make ‘Apprentice’ Guest Appearance

The Apprentice: ONE Championship Edition” has almost reached its halfway mark, and we’ve seen some of the world’s brightest athletes test the physical and mental skills of the global candidates.

Those guest athletes have included ONE Atomweight World Champion “Unstoppable” Angela Lee, “Super” Sage Northcutt, and ONE Heavyweight World Champion Brandon “The Truth” Vera.

Next, Ben “Funky” Askren will join Vera in Episode 6 to further test the candidates’ mettle.

Askren first made a name for himself as a wrestler, becoming a two-time NCAA Division I Champion and a 2008 Summer Olympics competitor in Beijing, China.

He then turned his talents to mixed martial arts, where he competed in America before signing with ONE Championship.

Once in the organization, he secured the ONE Welterweight World Championship in 2014 and held it for three years, defending the belt four times against icons like Shinya “Tobikan Judan” Aoki and former World Titleholder Zebaztian “The Bandit” Kadestam.

Askren was eventually traded to the UFC in exchange for 12-time World Champion Demetrious “Mighty Mouse” Johnson and later retired from mixed martial arts.

He does, however, remain active in wrestling. “Funky” runs five wrestling schools – called Askren Wrestling Academy – around Wisconsin, United States.

With that in mind, can we expect the former ONE World Champion to test the candidates’ wrestling skills in the upcoming episode?

Find out when the toughest version of “The Apprentice” airs on AXN this Thursday, 22 April, at 8:50 p.m.
