Free State Stars - SuperSport United Preview: Matsatsantsa hope to continue their impressive form

Matsatsantsa travel to Bethlehem hoping to gain three points as they look to continue their title challenge

On Wednesday evening, Free State Stars will host the high flying SuperSport United.

Stuart Baxter’s men have been superb all season and resumed their Premier Soccer League(PSL) campaign with an exciting 5-2 victory over Lamontville Golden Arrows last week.

Matsatsantsa have had a hectic last few days as they travelled to Madagascar for a Caf Confederations Cup preliminary qualification match.

However, the former Kaizer Chiefs tactician chose to rest some of his more senior players as he looked to implement his rotation policy.

SuperSport are only three points off the summit and a win will be vital if they hope to keep in touch with the leaders.

Meanwhile for Stars, a win will go a long way as they hope to fight their way out of the relegation zone.

Serame Letsoaka’s chargers come into the match on the back of another loss, this time to a rampant Chiefs side.

Ea Lla Koto sit third from bottom and will hope that their fortunes will change against the Tshwane-based side.

The match will also see the return of many of United’s casualties and will be welcomed by Baxter as the club attempts to continue their good form throughout the congested schedule.

Goal-poacher Jeremy Brockie is one notable returnee. The New-Zealand international made a short cameo appearance in Madagascar on the weekend and will look to reignite his scoring touch in Bethlehem.

Stars go into the encounter without two of their key players. Angelo Kerspuy and goalkeeper Thela Ngobeni will miss the clash due to suspension.

The absence of Ngobeni will surely be felt as the 28-year-old has been one of Stars’ best performers throughout the season.

If the Free State side are to salvage anything against their more illustrious opponents, they will have to contain a lethal SuperSport attack.

This makes for an intriguing battle as two teams with different aspirations collide.
