Fresh injury blow for Liverpool star Sturridge

Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge has suffered a fresh injury setback after a foot problem ruled him out of a return to action in Thursday's Europa League clash against Bordeaux. Sturridge was hoping to feature in the Anfield game, which Liverpool won 2-1 to reach the last 32, as he looked to get back to action following a knee injury which has kept him out since early October. However, the injury-prone England international was sent for a scan after complaining of discomfort in a foot. The 26-year-old had trained normally with the rest of Jurgen Klopp's squad on Wednesday before the problem flared up. Sturridge has played just three games this season, scoring twice, after missing large chunks of last term due to injury. "I don't know too much about the situation because it was in the afternoon after training. It's not a situation I saw but we trained in two groups, the starting line-up and the other players trained together in shooting," said Klopp. "Of course we can now start to think about it because we had no time, it was really close to the game when the news came. No news in this moment, we have to wait."
